Entropic Float Biweekly Update #14

Here in update fourteen, we've got some lovely chibis of the protagonists by Cabbage Roll on skeb! You might even be able to look forward to seeing these cuties on some merchandise someday.

Merch? For a game that has no following yet? Well, sure! Because I'm going to be representing Starfield Gaming at Connecticon 2022! Semi-Exclusive merch for both Entropic Float and Heart Fragment will be available there, with any leftovers becoming available for sale online post-con. I'll share more details about this exciting event as it draws nearer!

With that aside, you're not here to hear about far-off conventions. You're here to hear about the progress I've made on the game! And oh boy, it's a big one.

Writing:

54/54 segments!! That's right, I've finished the normal routes! I'm still not even entirely sure how I'll structure tracking my progress through the Miracle Route, but I'm making that outline later today, so I should be able to share next update! It's not that I'm unprepared with the content of the true ending, just that I haven't put it down to 'segments' that are trackable as easily as the normal routes have been.

The normal routes worked out to be 174,599 words total. The nine routes and eighteen endings that lead you to the truth... To that final Miracle Route, and the True Ending... Oh boy! To put that in context, that's about 19,000 words per route, and the single longest episode of Umineko was 179,000 words... It's hard to believe that after all of that, there's still so much story left to tell! One huge piece of development done, and a brand new journey of creation ahead!

Talksprites:

No change since last time.

Voice Acting:

No change since last time

Background Music:

I added three new Royalty-Free tracks by Kevin Macleod, all for use in one particular puzzle. Overcast, Presenterator, and Disco Medusae have joined the list!

My goal progress from last time:
- Write 5 segments of the Rashmi Night Route Totally done!! I've written all the normal routes!!
- Develop an outline to track progress of the True End Totally not done! I'm going to do this later today!
- Implement fixes to the Kanatsun Routes as found by my beta testers Totally done, and I packaged the Rashmi Routes for beta too!

My goals for next time:
- Develop an outline to track progress of the True End
- Create first batch of new assets for the Miracle Route
- Create a new BGM track for use in the Miracle Route

Along with finishing writing the Rashmi Routes, I of course had to implement the last few things that went in this portion of the game. A few CGs that were missing, some looping videos for a certain puzzle, and the summaries for the Rashmi Route Endings on the Endings Recap Screen. I also deleted my persistent data and skipped through everything again, in order to make sure that all profile notes and endings unlock properly. And they do!

At this point, all I'll need to go back to the regular Routes for will be...
- Implementing True's voicelines
- Fixing any issues my beta testers find this round
- Adding 'achievement badges' for each ending of the game, to be shown upon ending completion and stored on the summaries page. These will also double as being great to make merch out of!
- Implementing all sound effects while the Miracle Route is being tested.

Until next time!

Entropic Float 2: Character Reveal and Kickstarter Date!

Entropic Float 2... Characters! They're here! The video above shares some songs to help you get the feel on their personalities- And their profiles are available too! I've also been hard at work to get the demo ready before the Kickstarter, which I've decided to launch on 11/11/2023 ! Below, you can see the first talksprite for good ol' Kanatsune Ame. To temper expectations a bit- The demo will only cover the beginning of the game. The 'exposition loop', if you will. Several of these characters won't be appearing yet, and certain loop-related features will, well, not exist because there is no second loop to implement them on. It should, however, give you an idea of what the story's going to be, and how the main point-and-click gameplay will work. Just enough of a taster to let you know that EF2 is worth getting made! And I mean... Even if the Kickstarter fails, I'll make it anyway. It just might take me a good bit longer, and might miss out on some...

Entropic Float Biweekly Update #6

Happy Halloween to those who celebrate! Here we have some lovely themed art of Shinji by Tree Dorothy on Skeb ! This update, I have a few pieces of exciting news! The first is unrelated to the game development itself, but I've recently gotten a new job that should give me more opportunity to work on Entropic Float each weekend. The second, much more relevant update is that I've officially partnered with Starfield Gaming , the developer of Heart Fragment ! While we've already been working together for some time now, Entropic Float will now officially be releasing as a Starfield title when the time comes! And if you're looking forward to that day, I'd definitely recommend giving Heart Fragment a shot in the meantime. It's a Psychological Otome Game that, as of the time of writing this update, has two fully completable routes (with more on the way!) and is 50% off of its usual price, only five dollars for quite a bit of content- And the art is prettier than Entrop...

Entropic Float 2 Demo And Kickstarter Launch!

Picture a point-and-click adventure game. Now picture a branching, time-looping ontological mystery visual novel. Entropic Float 2 combines those into its gameplay concept: A point-and-click where you can never solve every puzzle at once. Where you have one key that fits two locks... And the only way to see what's behind the lock you didn't choose is to die, repeat the day, and try something different this time. With only you and your protagonist aware of the loop, seek an answer that earns new information. Through trial and error, solutions and murder... Can you find the way through this new Anomaly? In early 2021, I started working on a project just for fun. Using the character creator and scene assembly tools of Illusion's Koikatsu, paired with the visual novel engine ren'py, I decided to learn to make a VN. A year and a half, over three hundred thousand words, and quite a bit of pocket money later, I released 'Entropic Float: This World Will Decay And Disappear...
