Entropic Float Biweekly Update #15

This update's art on display is from Hiyoyo on skeb!

Touko is so cute, isn't she? I've learned from spending time on skeb that she's actually a very appealing character! I've received several requests of people who want to draw her... I'm curious if that's a Japan-specific kind of appeal, or if the english-speaking audience also thinks that she's adorable? Food for thought!

My progress since last time isn't the best, unfortunately. Things keep coming up on my weekends... Even when it's good things (it's not always, but often is) there's part of me which just wants to work. Suffering from success. Don't they know the gamedev way is to hermit oneself away for months on end with no regard to maintaining your social circle?? Well, let's get into what I have accomplished since last time.

Writing:

I'm doing away with the progress bars for this section because, frankly, I just think it would be annoying.
The good news is, I worked out an outline to track my progress on the Miracle Route! The bad news is, this is approximately 74 segments long. 31 standard segments, 36 'memory seeking' segments, and 7 epilogue segments. But to swing it back around to good news...
2/31 standard segments already completed. The opening of the Miracle Route is written right up to the first time that the group splits up into puzzle rooms.
I have 9/36 Memory Seeking segments written. Without giving too much away, these are flashback sequences to each character's life before the game, that you'll be able to unlock as you play through the route. I've been able to write bits and pieces of these segments while at my day job in the past, and I'm going to keep it up, so this number should increase pretty quickly.
This has us sitting at 11/74 segments of the Miracle Route written so far. I hope to have the entire thing written by the end of May, so that I can get it beta tested while I work on adding polish throughout the month of June. I'm not sure if I'm on track for that just yet, but here's hoping I will be soon!

Talksprites:

I can pretty confidently say I now have all the talksprites that I need. I'd share some with you, but they're all full of spoilers!

Voice Acting:

No change since last time

Background Music:

I added a new track titled 'Within All Recollections'. While I'll still be using other tracks during Memory Seeking segments, the intention of this track is to be used as a 'basic track' for these scenes, playing when there's nothing which would be better-suited.

My goal progress from last time:
- Develop an outline to track progress of the True End Done!
- Create first batch of new assets for the Miracle Route Done!
- Create a new BGM track for use in the Miracle Route Done!

My goals for next time:
- Write at least 3 Standard Segments
- Write at least 5 Memory Seeking Segments
- Create the second batch of new assets for the Miracle Route
- Implement imagebuttons for the Memory Seeking screen

I expect the imagebutton implementation to take a full day, as I'm going to be assembling all 36 of them and making sure I have every variable necessary. I've decided on my other goals for this cycle with that time-sink in mind. With 5 cycles left before my target and 63 segments left to write, 8 segments in a cycle isn't going to be quite enough! For the remaining 4 cycles after this upcoming one, I'll need to really kick it into gear and aim for 14 segments each time. That's one per day! Wish me luck avoiding making any new plans on top of the ones I already have in there ;o;b

Besides the progress in the above categories, I also made some serious progress on the programming side of things. The majority of time I spent working on the game yesterday was troubleshooting the two main features introduced during this route. The 'Profile Puzzle' mechanic, which was really troublesome, and the 'Memory Seeking' mechanic, which wasn't technically troublesome at all, just a bit time-consuming. Now that I have the framework established, it should come naturally to fill the content in between.

Until next time!

Entropic Float 2: Character Reveal and Kickstarter Date!

Entropic Float 2... Characters! They're here! The video above shares some songs to help you get the feel on their personalities- And their profiles are available too! I've also been hard at work to get the demo ready before the Kickstarter, which I've decided to launch on 11/11/2023 ! Below, you can see the first talksprite for good ol' Kanatsune Ame. To temper expectations a bit- The demo will only cover the beginning of the game. The 'exposition loop', if you will. Several of these characters won't be appearing yet, and certain loop-related features will, well, not exist because there is no second loop to implement them on. It should, however, give you an idea of what the story's going to be, and how the main point-and-click gameplay will work. Just enough of a taster to let you know that EF2 is worth getting made! And I mean... Even if the Kickstarter fails, I'll make it anyway. It just might take me a good bit longer, and might miss out on some...

Entropic Float in 2023: An Update!

Happy New Year, everybody!                                                                     It's 2023  and I have a lot of plans! I'll start out by offering reminders that there's a survey to influence the contents of the Entropic Float DLC (Letters To A Beloved Ghost) and make sure that you get to see your favorite characters again, as well as a few pieces of official Entropic Float Merch available on my etsy store.  There are stickers of the full cast, keychains of the protagonists and antagonist, and pin buttons of each standard ending- But if there's a particular piece of merchandise you'd want to see, feel free to contact me and let me know. Entropic Float: Letters To A Beloved Ghost As mentioned above, there's a survey to influence this DLC's content, but that...

Entropic Float 2 Demo And Kickstarter Launch!

Picture a point-and-click adventure game. Now picture a branching, time-looping ontological mystery visual novel. Entropic Float 2 combines those into its gameplay concept: A point-and-click where you can never solve every puzzle at once. Where you have one key that fits two locks... And the only way to see what's behind the lock you didn't choose is to die, repeat the day, and try something different this time. With only you and your protagonist aware of the loop, seek an answer that earns new information. Through trial and error, solutions and murder... Can you find the way through this new Anomaly? In early 2021, I started working on a project just for fun. Using the character creator and scene assembly tools of Illusion's Koikatsu, paired with the visual novel engine ren'py, I decided to learn to make a VN. A year and a half, over three hundred thousand words, and quite a bit of pocket money later, I released 'Entropic Float: This World Will Decay And Disappear...
